After you install CB for the first time you will notice your Joomla: Components menu now has a new Community Builder menu that has its own 7 submenu options:

  1. User Management
  2. Tab Management
  3. Field Management
  4. List Management
  5. Plugin Management
  6. Tools
  7. Configuration

The first thing you need to do is to visit the Configuration sub-menu and save the settings. This is mandatory in order to initialize the CB configuration parameters file in your environment.

Before saving you should explore the CB Configuration parameters and study them. Each parameter has a description that will help you understand its functionality and purpose.

The following is a list of recommended settings that you can start off with:

  1. General tab :: Name Style parameter - change it from default 'Single Name Field' to 'First and Last Name Field' setting
This way you instruct CB to use first and last name fields in its registration process and its user profiles
  2. General tab :: Date Format - change it to suite your environment
By default CB is set to display dates in 'mm/dd/yyyy' format
  3. Registration tab :: Allow User Registration parameter - change to 'yes, independently of glocal site setting'
This will allow CB registration process to work independently of Joomla settings which should be turned off in Joomla :: Users :: Options settings
  4. User Profile tab :: 'Use new div or old table based views' - set to 'Use divs (table-less output)'
Instructs CB to use css div markup instead of html table markup

You can also look at our Enabling CB Connections tutorial to see how to configure this CB functionality.
