Users cannot edit profile

Hi,
Running version 1.3.1

When users try to edit their profile, it says it was saved, but it does not.
When in the admin area, user management, I can not update their info either.

Would upgrading to the latest version fix this or will it make things worse...by losing all existing member info?

How long would it take to fix something like this?
The "Professional Services by the hour" doesn't really indicate that they will go in and fix it. So I'm at a loss here.

You need to upgrade to latest CB version (backup first).

You can use the professional services by the hour and someone will look at your website and identify the issue (which is not CB related - must be something else you installed).

I'm waiting on a member to confirm their registration, so I haven't upgraded yet, but was wondering what you think I could have uploaded that would be causing this issue?

I am sure because most likely you cannot replicate the behavior on a clean Joomla site with just CB 1.4 or CB 1.7.
