Problem with Installation or Database?

Problem with Installation or Database? was created by interspaceintel
Hi,

I am writing about problems I encountered while installing CB Pro and other plugins.

I developed the initial site on one server and copied that installation to the actual server for my community site. I used Akeeba Backup for the migration to the new server. Everything was fine.

My installation details: Joomla! 3.0.3, PHP 5.3.21, MySQL 5.0.96-log, GoDaddy shared hosting.

Last Sunday, I began updating CB and related plugins one by one. When installing CB Pro, everything except CB 1.9 was successfully installed. CB 1.9 was shown in the Failed column. Since CB 1.9 was already installed on my site, I thought that might have been the reason why it was not installed over. But I am not sure about that because I think CB 1.9 can be re-installed over the same 1.9 installation without problems. So why CB 1.9 installation showed a failure?

Then when I began installing the other plugins that were not part of the CB Pro package, after the installation of 1 plugin, I got an error: 0 SQL=SHOW FULL COLUMNS FROM 'xxxx_extensions'.

I found that that plugin was installed anyway. Then, I got the same error while installing CB AntiSpam plugin 1.1.0. Similarly, I found that the AntiSpam plugin was installed when I visited the CB plugins page. But the AntiSpam plugin is not working correctly. I have attached a screenshot that shows the AntiSpam plugin being displayed in the login area. The template of the site is the default Protostar Joomla! template.

I got similar errors even when logged in the Joomla! administrator area. See the attached screenshot. And not to mention, I got similar error when I visited the site home page. It said "The requested page cannot be found." and showed the error: 0 SQL=SHOW FULL COLUMNS FROM 'xxxx_users'. Here, the 'users' table is mentioned and not the 'extensions' table.

I am confused and worried because I want to get my community site launched ASAP. I plan to upgrade to Joomla! 3.1.1 after I get CB and its plugins updated. And then, I wish to purchase CBSubs to integrate the membership system.

Could these problems be due to the Internet brute force attack in the past days? GoDaddy reported attacks on their servers, and now they report the problems as having been fixed. In that case, just to make sure everything works fine, will it be wise to re-install the CB Pro package and other plugins?

Anyway, I request your kind help in finding the actual cause of the problems and rectifying them.

I may also need specific support for the CB AntiSpam plugin 1.1.0. It just doesn't seem to work properly.

I look forward to your help and advice so that my community Website can be launched ASAP.

Many thanks in advance!

Sincerely yours,

Anis

MySQL 5.0.96-log

Your MySQL is massively out of date. You should be on at the least 5.1, but I recommend 5.5 or greater. Please contact GoDaddy and see if they can upgrade MySQL.

Then when I began installing the other plugins that were not part of the CB Pro package, after the installation of 1 plugin, I got an error: 0 SQL=SHOW FULL COLUMNS FROM 'xxxx_extensions'.

Show columns is a standard usage to request what columns a database table contains. It's vital to CB for database upgrades, validation, etc.. if it's not working then you need to contact your host as to why as that's purely a MySQL issue (probably due to being out of date).

The template of the site is the default Protostar Joomla! template.

You have fatal errors present. If there are any fatal errors present it's going to break the PHP based image output. Once your fatal errors are resolved (the SQL errors) it should work fine.

I also recommend changing to a more reliable host if they can not help you with your MySQL issues (this is not something we can help with as is a server issue, sorry).

Hi Kyle,

Thank you for your well-informative reply! I really appreciate it.

In that case, I am ready to move away from GoDaddy hosting. I want reliability and the latest features.

As my community site is CB and CBSubs-based, I want the best hosting company that supports these. And of course, Joomlapolis! hosting should be the right choice!

Is Joomlapolis! hosting having the latest MySQL and other hosting features? Like MySQL 5.5 or greater?

I'm based in Strasbourg, France. So I think choosing the Europe hosting center of Joomlapolis! would be the best option. Am I right?

What I will do is restore the backup from my site development Joomla! installation (that was working normally) and then update CB and all the CB plugins to their latest versions using CB Pro and other plugins that are not included in the CB Pro package. After that, I can upgrade Joomla! from 3.0.3 to 3.1.1, right?

If I choose Joomlapolis! hosting, I presume I will have the full professional support of the Joomlapolis! team for any issues that may arise during installation and running of my community Website.

I look forward to your reply soon.

Sincerely yours,

Anis

Yes, our hosting is always stable for Joomla, CB, and CBSubs usage as those are our primary hosting goals. We use our own hosting for Joomlapolis it self as well of course. Our hosting is basically guaranteed to work with Joomla, CB, and CBSubs assuming there's no errors in your sites code it self (extension bugs, etc..).

Yup.

That should work fine. You can actually use our package builder below to build a Joomla install-able package containing all the plugins you have installed and it'll prepare a single install-able package with the latest releases for you to install through Joomla extension manager.

If I choose Joomlapolis! hosting, I presume I will have the full professional support of the Joomlapolis! team for any issues that may arise during installation and running of my community Website.

If the issue is hosting related then of course. Hosting support of course does not help fix issues or bugs in extensions themselves. You also have a support subscription so you have support for all our products if any of them should give you trouble, but please for CB support use the support forums for best response and use hosting tickets for hosting specific issues.

Thanks Kyle again for your prompt reply!

Please give me more info on the following matters regarding Joomlapolis! hosting.

(1) After I purchase one hosting account (e.g. Bronze), I can upgrade it later to other levels (e.g. Silver, Gold, etc.) automatically, right? Is it possible to upgrade to a dedicated server also automatically?

(2) The hosting plans have the facility to host more than 1 domain name. Is each domain hosted separately OR one will be the primary domain and the rest of the domains point to a sub-folder of the primary domain hosting?

(3) I would like to have SSL feature on my Website. Is an SSL certificate included in the hosting plans or do I have to buy one separately? Can I install an SSL certificate issued by another company on the hosting?

(4) When an SSL certificate is installed on the hosting, can it be used for all the domains hosted?

I look forward to your reply soon.

Many thanks in advance!

Sincerely yours,

Anis

Hi Anis,

To answer your Joomlapolis hosting questions:

(1): Yes for standard hosting upgrades: They are automatic.
No for dedicated server, this implies manual setup and migration work at this time.

(2) Each additional domain is separately hosted in its own folder inside the "domains" folder of your account and can have its own database (or share the one of the main or other domains if wanted). To have complete separation with different Unix users for each domain, multiple hosting packages can be purchased.

(3) For SSL, you need a dedicated IP address, which is an option selectable at order time. You can bring with you your existing certificates if you have the corresponding private key. In our certificate pricing, installation is included. You can bring or get elsewhere your certificate, in that case there is a certificate installation cost to cover the engineer's time. Renewing and reinstalling SSL certificates is always a pain, that's why we propose cost-effective 3 or 5 years SSL certificates.

(4) SSL Certificates are usually domain specific (as they are there to authenticate the domain too) and we would need to install one certificate for each domain. Multi-domain certificates exist too, in that case the same certificate would be installed in each domain.
