i want to be able to have members generate a printable membership card from a profile tab. I have a PDF file of the card, the user can input their name and print it. I want this PDF visible in a profile tab. Any ideas? I suppose i could settle just for a link to the PDF file if i had to.

thanks

You could use CB File Fieldtype plugin to provide a new file field for the PDF to be uploaded to. Then the card can easily be downloaded and printed as needed (note it does not open, it's always a download).

CB has no such feature. The best I can suggest is use CB Content Bot to allow substitutions in Joomla articles then substitute in user information and use Joomlas PDF/Print features for articles. You can also try navigating to a users profile with the below appended to the URL to make it more print friendly.

&tmpl=component&print=1

Example URL as follows.

index.php?option=com_comprofiler&view=userprofile&tmpl=component&print=1

You want it to be printable, but render the tabs as a list? I'm not sure you can do that. The best I can suggest is to append &format=raw to stop CSS and JS from rendering then all you get is raw HTML. Example URL as follows.

index.php?option=com_comprofiler&view=userprofile&format=raw&tmpl=component&print=1
