Groupjive - categories vs groups was created by nina.balslev
Hi

I am a little bit confused about how to combine groups and categories in Groupjive :silly:

As far as I can see, you cannot create a group without relating the group to a category. This is understandable.

What confuses me is that when I search for information about groupjive it seems as if the categories can be used without having any connection to any groups.

Can anyone make it more clear to me what is the connection between groups/categories and categories/groups?

Thanks

A category is a category of groups in the same way a Joomla content category is a category of articles. You can't access a categories groups without access to the category it self in the same way you can't access a categories articles without access to the category it self in Joomla content. It's primarily for organization.

Hi again Kyle

I was a little bit too optimistic with my last answer to you. I still have some challenges concerning the combination of groups and categories.

I have tried to illustrate the issue in the two enclosed images:

What i want is that my members can go directly to one or more groups and join these groups without at all knowing something about the existence of categories.

I hope that you can help

Best regards

The breadcrumb has no parameters to customize it. You'd need to remove its output from GJs template files found at the below location. You would then need to input your own custom breadcrumb output.

components/com_comprofiler/plugin/user/plug_cbgroupjive/templates/default/

What i want is that my members can go directly to one or more groups and join these groups without at all knowing something about the existence of categories.

GJ is not designed for that so you're going to have a laundry list of problems trying to get rid of categories.

Thanks for your answer Kyle

Maybe I have not expressed myself clearly. I do not want to skip the categories. I just want to hide the categories for my users. Is that not possible?

Best regards
