Change the way Groupjive displays was created by konp
Hi I hope I'm in the right place. I've just started with CB. I'm trying to configure Groupjive (GJ) and I get the layout shown in the attached file. This is very inelegant. What I'd like to do is have groups appear as a drop down menu next to connections, then have the other tabs drop down underneath including preferably a drop down to create new group.

Is this possible? Could someone tell me how to do this, or point me to where the documentation to do this might be found? CB is a big system and I'm a bit lost, so sorry if I should have been able to find this info.

BTW I'm using CB2 which (according to error messages from GJ is not compatible). How worried should I be? Would you suggest I downgrade to CB1.9? Can I use this configuration on a live site?

Thanks in advance for any help. Love CB, as far as I've got (even though I'm lost).

The only way to have tabs in a dropdown is to use the nested tabs display with a toolbar display. That's how the dropdown to the right of the Forums tab functions. Best I can suggest is move the groups tab to the Canvas Main Middle position and set it to display as nested tab menu so it'll add to that dropdown. Please also see the recently released CB 2.0 primer book as it details tab display and position usage further.

The only thing you'd need to worry about is GJ Events is bugged, but you can find a patched release of GJ Events below.

www.joomlapolis.com/forum/255-developer-members-support/227366-groupjive-event-date-problem#253480

CB can not be downgraded so please do not attempt to do so or it will break CB.

Sorry not to have replied earlier, but I do this part time with bursts of activity followed by gaps. Anyway thanks for the guidance on the menus. I did manage to get that working. But I now have further questions.

I mentioned in my previous question that the menu item (reached from the backend GJ menu) lists a number of very useful functions. If I tick on a function then save it. When I go to the GJ menu in Joomla menus, GJ has created the header for the menu item I saved. For instance there is a menu header in the GJ backend menu 'All Groups' which I would expect to list all groups.

Just what I want. I go to the GJ menu in Joomla menus and there is the header 'All Groups', but it's just a header. I can't attach the header to any function that lists all the groups. Is it correct that all you can do is create the header but not add the corresponding functionality? This seems unlikely as it is very simple to create a menu item header in Joomla anyway.

So question one: How can I access the functions that the GJ menu tab seems to offer?

I have so far managed to create a GJ menu at the front end. This lists Categories and then within categories you can find the various groups. Having found the group I can then join.

Question two: How do I approve an attempt to join the group? I can't find anyway to do this.

Question three: How can I produce a list of groups and attach it to a menu? My users are not digital natives. They will not be able to find groups if they have to go via categories. I need a list of groups that they can choose from and then join. Is this possible? If so how?

The potential of GJ is wonderful. But I'm finding it difficult to create a logical and easy interface for my potential users.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Do you mean the part above the groups content? That's not controlled by Joomla. To add new menu items to that you need to modify GJs template directly or create a new CB plugin to output a new menu item by acting on GJs menu trigger (CB Auto Actions maybe able to do this with Code action, untested). GJs template files can be found below.

components/com_comprofiler/plugin/user/plug_cbgroupjive/templates/default/

Question two: How do I approve an attempt to join the group? I can't find anyway to do this.

Under the Users tab of your groups you can approve users wanting to join.

GJ has not been upgraded yet so creating Joomla menu items to its various pages is frustrating to say the least. You need to navigate to GJ > Menus. Once there click the checkboxes of the menu items you want. Now click "Create" on the toolbar. This will generate Joomla menu items to GJs pages under the new CB GroupJive menutype. You can now move them to wherever you want.

The potential of GJ is wonderful. But I'm finding it difficult to create a logical and easy interface for my potential users.

Yup, that's why it's going to be completely rewritten after the next release. First is an upgrade release. Next will be a complete rewrite from the ground up (and a name change as GroupJive keeps confusing people thinking it's for ACL).

On my installation there is no 'create' button that I can see. There's a 'save' button that if I press creates a header for the menu item in the Joomla menu system, but as stated above there's no way to connect the header to any functionality.

As an aside I like the name GroupJive. I personally can't see the connection to ACL.

Thanks for help to date.

Then the menu creation probably doesn't work anymore. You'll need to create External Joomla menu items to GJ URLs beginning with index.php then. Creating Internal Joomla menu items to GJ will be fixed in the upgrade.

As an aside I like the name GroupJive. I personally can't see the connection to ACL.

The current planned new name is CB Communities. A lot of big changes are planned for the rewrite. For example categories and nesting are all going away. Categorization will be done by a Tagged system. The integrations are to be merged into the core and much more. The rewrite won't be for awhile though so nothing to worry about for now (it'll also migrate GJ so there's no concern for data loss of any kind).
