Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere - I have searched without success.

My site is for a small technical group where all new members require approval before being accepted. We have three paid memberships where one plan type needs further approval by a review committee. Of course CB + CB Subs handles this perfectly by just setting admin approval to yes for all, and having them pending while I determine if they need formal review.

I have CB Auto Actions set to email me with all the registration details whenever a new user registers. I can then forward the details on directly to committee for review if they need formal approval, or just login and approve them myself if not. The only detail I have not been able to include in the Auto Actions email is the CB Subs plan name that the new member has chosen during registration. I have tried [PLAN_NAME] in the Auto Actions email but that text was not substituted in the email. Is there a simple why that I can include the CB Subs plan name in the Auto Actions email?

Many thanks.

Install CBSubs 4.1.0 then within your auto action under Parameters set "Content Plugins" to "Yes". You can now use CBSubs content.prepare usage within your action. Examples of such usage below.

www.joomlapolis.com/news/18550-cbsubs-gpl-41-content-control-everywhere

Additional usages can be found within the CBSubs system plugin description within Extensions > Plugins. For example to output the name of the plan you can use.

[cbsubs:plans plan="PLAN_ID_HERE" output="name" /]

Thank you for the quick response.
I have CBSubs 4.1.0 installed as well as cbsubs system plugin, etc. I cannot see any option to set "Content Plugins" with the auto actions (either in the the CB Auto Actions plugin properties, or the properties of my specific auto action). Can you clarify this?
I think I have all dependent modules and plugins installed(?) from following the CB Subs 4.1 manual.

Within your auto action under the Parameters tab should be the parameter "Content Plugins". If it's not there then you're out of date. Install latest releases below using nightlies where available.

I am getting close now...
I was running Auto Actions latest full release 6.3.5 but updated to latest nightly and now have the Content Plugins option. However, whenever I enable Content Plugins, the auto action fails to send an the auto actioned email.

I have also updated CB and CBSubs (including Joomla plugin) to latest nightly but it still fails. As soon as I toggle content plugins back to off, the action works and email sends, but obviously without the content substitutions / plan information.
To eliminate an error in my email content I then removed any content code, i.e. email body is simple text "hello world", but it still won't send an email if Content Plugins is enabled.

Any ideas?

Enable debug mode and maximum error reporting in Joomla global configuration then under parameters of your action enable debug. This will allow your auto action to properly output errors.
