Some of my users seem to be getting a 403 error when they go to the website today after I updated it to CBsubs 3.0 GPL last night. They refresh and it's fine.

CB 2.3, CBsubs 4.3, PHP 7.1, J! 3.9.X

You should contact your hoster to get the reasons of these hosting-related errors. When you have errors returned they are logged into the Apache server error log.

the error was "403 You are not authorised to view this resource."

so I toughtt it could have been a cbsubs issue related to permissions (?)

I don't think so. CBSubs does not generate 403's.
So it's either another extension or the web-server.

Your hoster can give you exact Apache error log for those 403's.

issue was found and is unrelated to cbsubs - a simple Joomla permissions issue

CB 2.3, CBsubs 4.3, PHP 7.1, J! 3.9.X
