Handling offline payments

How is it best to keep track of who has paid offline and how to mark them as paid?
I don't see the best way to do this.
I thought there might have been a frontend way to do this but I can't seem to find it.
If not, what is the best way to mark this paid in the backend. It appears that you can just do this from the basket.
