Sorting categories is ok but It seems that sorting of groups does not seem to function in the referenced version.
Mind to check on your side ?

Seams to be working fine in my tests. Where are you having this issue exactly? The category groups and all/my/joined groups pages have different parameters for that. For sorting groups inside of a category (e.g. so when viewing a category) you need to adjust GJ > Parameters > Categories > Groups. For all other pages you need to adjust GJ > Parameters > Groups > Paging.
