I didn't like the Karma rating too (never understood the concept and I don't think it is transparent to the users either).
So I changed it to work as an ebay-like rating system.
Scala from 0-6 (easily changed to 10 or whatever you like) and the users have to give some reason for their ratings.

I deactivated the daylock too (Users are allowed to rate each other ONCE and for all), but if you like this feature it can easily be re-activated.

It works fine for my site now (but still not online, because other features need some work...).

I didn't bother to publish it here or elsewhere up to now, because I don't know if there is some demand for it. Finishing it for a distributable package still needs some refinements and time.

You have to register to test the rating functionality. Although it's german the registration process should be straightforward.

Register, login and
click on the ad ,
click on "heinz" in the header of the ad
click on the tab "Bewertungen" (german for rating)
a click on the thumbs opens the ratings list ordered by date.
Your rating is not shown immediately. You have to reload the page (and click on the thumbs again for the details - I will change this soon).

I am planning to build a module to show ratings anywhere on a joomla page too.

I like it, and look forward to you distributing it. Would it be possible to rate an individual on more than one dimension (i.e. rate the same person for response time, useful posts, whatever), rather than on the single dimension you currently have?
