Access control question was created by fcarroll
I want a particular tab to be visible to all members but to exist in only one member group and be editable by that member.

I thought the way to do this would be to create a plugin for that tab and set the access level to that member group. When I tried this, changing access levels on the plugin (which doesn't do anything, it's the helloworld plugin right now), the other member types could also see it - the change didn't seem to affect anything.

So I installed the PrivacyPolicy plugin from Mikko and it does what it says - I can hide the tab from the usergroup.

Is it possible to have a tab which only exists (and is editable) for one user type, but is visible for all user group?

any pointers would be appreciated :)

Advanced Profile Control does this. (To my understanding, it is the only system that can do this)

Hi Mikko, thank you for your reply.

I registered on your test site but I'm not sure it will do what I need, to put it in terms of the example used on your site:

John is a Red user and has an extra red tab which he can see and edit. When John visits other red-users profiles he can see their red-tab

Jack is a blue user he has no extra tab. When Jack visits John's profile he can see John's red tab.

How is this accomplished with your plugin?

Also, it is 'Beta2' and only to be used for testing purposes - do you know when you expect to have a release version ready?

This can be done. You can check out the manual to see details.

The current limitations include that it is not SEF compatible, and only supports English. These will be probably fixed durign the weekend. After that, I will build a new demo site and release stable.

During the last week only two bugs have been reported bu roughly ten testers, so the software is pretty stable.

Hi Mikko,

Is the advanced control plugin out of beta yet?
