CB Captcha 1.0 works, version 2.2 RC3 don't

With version 2.2 RC3, the image is not displayed, neither on front nor on backend. I had to install version 1.0. The problem occurs on my remote site. On the test version I run locally with XAMPP, everything is ok. Both version, remote and local, are rigorously identical ! When is stable version of 2.2 planned for release ?

Both versions are identical but your environments are not.

Check your remote site error logs for real issue.

Thanks for your suggestion. I did reinstall version 2.2 RC3. When I open the "contact" form where the captcha image should be displayed, I see this line in the error log:

I am a newbye using Apache. Is this a problem of .htaccess ? Or should I change the permission of the components folder (currently 777, I did not set it myself, this was certainly set when I did upload my site from my local computer) ?
