Possibility of adding a product Database

What I want is that a Product database is available on my website where Prduct producers and manufacturers add/ register their products. However, these will not not be for sale on my website. It will be just a databse where concerned user can search a perticualr product and can contact the maufacturere.
I thought it can be implemented in CB. One way is to add more fields at registeration level. Questions;
1) how searching by front-end user will take place. In the language of CB, how user will be found
2) A product maker may want to register more than one products, how this will be implemented.

I guess you can use CB for this although it really smells like a Directory extension like SOBI or Mostrees
