Editor Text Area doesn't display WYSIWYG

I've added a field using Editor Text Area. This field appears on it's own tab.

On the backend, i can access a user, select the tab, and edit the content in this...and the WYSIWYG is displayed.

But if i login on the front end as the user and select to edit profile and select the tab w/ the Editor Text Area, no WYSIWYG is displayed.

I've tried JCE 1.5.6 and TinyMCE.

Is there a preferred Wysiwyg editor for using editor text area fields?

I have the same problem. 1.5.25 JCE editor

I noted a similar issue was template related in another post but there was no followup on what was done to solve the problem or even what was causing the editor from showing in the the front end.

If anyone has any insight or solutions, we'd sure like to hear about them.
