my search doesn't look for anything but regular articles, I need it to find (kunena) forum posts and K2 Items as well? Any suggestions?

You need to install a CB Search plugin for that.

There are a few available from third parties in the directory, if I'm not mistaken.

It's something that we certainly want to add to CB Team plugins as well in the near future.
