Drop down or drill down lists in profiles

Hi.

I see that a few people have asked for help or guidance about drill down lists within the profiles but I can't see any that have had a solution so I'm posting this in the hope that some kind soul can offer some ideas please.

I am trying to create a list of career categories and then if you select arts for example then it displays a list of areas (eg photographer). For some there is possibly the need for a third level (eg fashion photographer). The category, sub category and final role would all need to be displayed on the user's profile.

If it helps, I'm running J!1.5.24. Forgive my ignorance but this is at a level beyond me at the present time.
