cant get the promotions option to work

i have attached a promotion to my monthly membership, however it will not display an option for my clients to input the coupon code when they are registering.

If the promotion is published and valid (enabled and valid date-wise) and applies to plans presented in the registration form, then the redeem coupon field should also appear during the checkout process.
