Hi,

I have a site that is currently running J! 1.6, CB 1.4, and CB Privacy 1.3. I'd like to bring it up to J! 2.5 as safely as possible. What are my options?
  • Can I upgrade J! to 2.5 with CB 1.4, then later upgrade CB 1.4 to 1.9?
  • Can I upgrade CB 1.4 to CB 1.9 and then later upgrade J! to 2.5?
  • What are the compatibility issues? Do all of these versions work together? What is the safest sequence of updates?

Thanks in advance,
Patrick

You need to upgrade to CB 1.9 first and then migrate your joomla.

Well, I got there, but by a slightly different route.

If I tried to go to 1.9 first, I got errors about the database object not having a qn() method.

Something to the effect of:
Code:
Fatal error: Call to undefined method JDatabaseMySQLi::qn() in tmp/com_comprofiler/install.comprofiler.php on line 78

The method does not appear in my J! 1.6 source tree ... SO ... I replicated the site to a staging server and tried it with the J!1.6 -> J!2.5 first, using the JUpdate feature in the Extensions Manager. Then updating to CB 1.9 went pretty smoothly.

So, ... it looks OK so far, but I had to update Joomla first.

Thanks,
Patrick

For what it's worth almost a year later, I just found the same issue but then found that after upgrading 1.65->1.7.0 that I could then install the community builder update to 1.9.1 no problem, and then update to 2.5.x
