turns out that there was a hilariously easy solution- extension module was marked as not to be used to any pages. it is somehow odd, but changing it to all pages worked wonders!

Have added this basic Joomla step to updated CB installation guide (guess I shouldn't assume people will do this).

But the tutorial clearly states this already.
