Change multiple drop drown field to an ajax driven input field with suggestion

Hy,
I want to make a huge list, with 3200 items and the multiple selection would be important, but with the multiple drop down field it is not so nice.
It would be a pain for the users to go through the whole list on the registration.
There is an ajax driven input with suggestion feature in Virtuemart e.g. when I want to choose categories for the product and this methode is what I would like to have.

Could this be done? Is there an extension for this or can I hire someone to do this?
