Restriction to Profiles was created by andresbaa
Hi.

I am a newbie and have absolutely no experience with CB.

The idea is to allow anyone to register and become a member of the system, but only enabled to access her/his profile.

Then, with a given event (I have thought of entering certain ULR within Joomla!) the member could access any profile in the categories.

Is it possible with CB?

Thanks very much.

I am not sure what your use case really is.

Please give more details about what you consider all categories and the exact sequence of events you are looking for.

Hi Nick and thanks for replying.

I suppose that CB profiles are arranged in Joomla! categories.

The idea is to restrict or enable the access to the profiles.

The new member will be able to access her/his own profile, then an event would enable a general access to all the profiles in the site.

Without elaborating on the details, I had thought of clicking a button in a page accessible through an hidden menu. The member would be instructed to visit the url (by mail) and click a button in it that would enable the access to the profiles just for her/him.

In othe case, just by visiting the URL, clicking on a module or any othe similar action.

Is it possible?

Thanks

You are welcome.

Nope, CB has no such integration with Joomla categories.

The idea is to restrict or enable the access to the profiles.

Check your CB Configuration :: User Profile tab for the Allow Access To: parameter.

There you can set what Joomla group level and above you allow user profile access to.
But this setting also affects profile owner.

The new member will be able to access her/his own profile, then an event would enable a general access to all the profiles in the site.

I am not sure you can do this with the core CB component. If you configure CB so only a specific group has access to profiles, this will affect profile owner access to their own profiles also.

Without elaborating on the details, I had thought of clicking a button in a page accessible through an hidden menu. The member would be instructed to visit the url (by mail) and click a button in it that would enable the access to the profiles just for her/him.

Is it possible?

You might be able to do this with the privacy plugin or with an auto-action.
I will investigate and follow-up.

Thanks Nick. I'll wait for your next post.

Anyway, the idea is allowing registration but restricting access to the profiles until I decide to grant it to a given member, who would has access to her/his profile in the meantime.

CB is the best community extension in the market by far, but I do not know whether it offers the features that I am looking for or not.

Perhaps a combination of CB and the adequate membership & subscription extension?

I would appreciate your opinion on it.

Best regards.

One way of doing this is with CB Privacy (available to Advanced and Professional members).

CB Privacy
moderator controlled profile privacy
create a view access level and usergroup in that view access level that'd be able to view every profile
next protect profiles with that view access level using CB Privacy profile privacy field
when a user is added to that group they can view every user profile, if they're not in it then they can only view themselves

Another possibility is to use CBSubs GPL to setup appropriate membership subscriptions.
