This is doable with CB and SEF enabled (or third-party SEF extension)
- Each personal trainer needs to be able to update their own page and not have access to any other area of the website
Each CB user can edit his own user profile.
To make certain user profile areas private, you would need the CB Privacy plugin (available for Advanced, Pro, Dev members), or you can also use CBSubs protections plugin to do this.
CBSubs is needed for the other website areas protection part of this requirement.
- Each personal trainer will have their own students who can join online via their individual page eg
www.mysite.com/bill-smith

You would need to implement/code/hire-someone-to-do-this a CB Plugin to do this. I guess you might be able to use CB COnnections feature also.
- Each personal trainers page will have their own shopping cart where registered students only can purchase their products. Purchased products can be done through one system like virtuemart but the super administrator of the main joomla website needs to know which personal trainers page the order came from so that we can give each coach a commission of products sold.
You would have to use some kind of affiliate script (idevaffiliate or post affiliate pro) to support this.
