Using #keywords (Joomla tags...) for CB Gallery ?

4 weeks 2 days ago #340529 by Toulouzing
Hi!
I was wondering to use CB Plugins (Activity + Gallery + ??) for a little photographers community site. One main feature needed is  1- to allow member to add keywords/tags during the photo upload process ther, 2- to allow members to display a filtered gallery using keywords ( general or specific user).

Is there any combination of plugins allowing this ? If not, is there a simple way (little hack...) to approach this request ?

Many thanks

That's doable as long as they upload through CB Activity. CB Gallery has no hashtag or filtering functionality as it just facilitates uploading and display as a gallery. CB Activity has hashtag support and integrates with CB Gallery for uploading directly in a post. You can also filter streams by hashtag. So as long as you utilize CB Activity for this you're good to go with no modifications necessary as it supports this out of the box. Feel free to give it a try on our demo site below.

Hi Krileon,
thank you very much for your quick and clear answer

I did a quick test on the demo site using the predefined labels ( flair ?) and could filter in the activity stream. That's fine.
Unfortunatly, the poor integration of gallery (I mean 'filtering' according to hashtags) is a concern for my users.
As workaround a i would propose to open a photo from filtered activity stream then browse in the picture viewer but while testing, it seems not working ( no < > arrows left and right the photo to navigate...)

Side question ( but it is linked) : I am not sure that the plugin 'advanced search' allows to search in photos title or description

Flair is separate from Hashtags. For a hashtag type # followed by whatever hashtag you like and you should see the hashtag selector appear just like on other social media sites. Flair are predefined tags you can add to posts, which can be another option if you prefer them.

Unfortunatly, the poor integration of gallery (I mean 'filtering' according to hashtags) is a concern for my users.

You'd need to be more specific about what filtering you're looking for. Posts can be searched by a large amount of criteria. From post contents, to tags, to flairs, to mentions, to even custom filters. See the Filters section of the CB Activity page below for more details.

The left/right navigation only applies to uploads within that post. So if you upload 3 photos you can scroll through those 3. It won't scroll through other posts.

Side question ( but it is linked) : I am not sure that the plugin 'advanced search' allows to search in photos title or description

Searching a post doesn't search a gallery upload title or description. It searches whatever message the user included with their post. The search input when directly viewing a gallery (e.g. Gallery tab on users profiles) does search title and description though.

Do you have an example of what you're wanting exactly?

Thank you again !
Oh OK, i understand better the difference between Hashtags and Flair    . Also, I saw details of the CB Activity page, for my need i have no concerns abouts filters your propose, it's really great.

You'd need to be more specific about what filtering you're looking for.

OK. This is about what i called 'poor CB Gallery integration' . Sorry if the term is a bit harsh, english is not my native langage   :
Integration of Gallery with Activity Stream ( as competitor from Wordpress can do):

1- A member post 1 or several pictures from Activity Stream and add relevant Flairs.
2- This is feeding the 'my gallery' of the member ( I am OK if the member cannot feed the gallery directly because Flairs are not available) as well as a 'general gallery' (all members)
3- Any members can open a gallery (from member or the generic one) and can apply filters  (Flairs as privilegied feature)

My guess is that filters are attribute of Activity but not attribute of picture which make this example scenario impossible

Correct, Flair and Hashtag are a part of CB Activity and not CB Gallery. CB Gallery doesn't have Flair or Hashtag functionality. So this filtering would only apply when viewing a stream.

Keep in mind that CB Activity has auto logging of activity built right into it. So it can automatically create an activity entry if they upload to their gallery directly. You can give this a try on our demo site by using the Login As, go to profile, then just upload to the gallery, and you should see that upload now has an activity entry.

Galleries also support Albums so I'm not entirely sure they need any filtering beyond that as users can self organize in addition to searching title and description of gallery entries when viewing a gallery. It's possible I may add support for hashtags to CB Gallery at some point, but am not entirely sure how well they'd fit in with its current usage.
