[SOLVED] creating groups in core Joomla

I am using Joomla 1.7, CB 1.7, Kunena 1.7 and GroupJive 2.4RC.
I want to create groups in the Joomla core, but when I try to, it keeps taking me to CB Admin Panel.
What do I need to do to be able to create user groups under the core groups in Joomla??
For example, we are creating a site for pets and their "parents". I'd like to have the Registered default group to be something like "parent" instead.
Also, there's 2 user groups there that I'd like to get rid of but can't figure out how to do that either.

I found the problem - my registration redirect plug-in.
It was literally the LAST thing I thought could be messing up with my groups in the BACK end!!

thanks for those who read my post and thought about what the problem could be - other than operator error, of course.
