Now I think I have located the problem.

We don't use the CB Login Module, we use the Joomla Login.
May that cause the problem?

This will cause synchronization problems between the user and CB. Please ensure you're using CBs login and registration processes only.

Not that I am aware unless some 3rd party developer has made one in which case would likely be found at Joomla.org extension directory.
