Okay. Thank you. Last 2 questions for you on this topic.

There are number of areas where my permissions are contingent on plan membership. If I want to give access to an area to a premium1 member, will access also automatically be given to members of the free plan because that's the parent plan?

If I make premium plans suddenly child plans, will I need to manually add already subscribed members to the basic plan?

Thanks again.

If the user subscribes to Premium 1 and it's a child plan of Teacher (free) then they obtain everything the Teacher plan gives and whatever the Premium 1 plan gives. If they subscribe to just Teacher then they won't obtain anything Premium 1 gives.

If I make premium plans suddenly child plans, will I need to manually add already subscribed members to the basic plan?

If you've existing subscribers you need to phase existing plans out. Changing plans around with existing subscribers will just cause problems. First create your new plans, next set your old plans to no longer allow new registrations, no upgrades, and no renewals. This way when those existing users expire they'll need to pick 1 of your new plans.

Okay, I tested out the scenario you mentioned to see how it would work... Now I remember my issue completely.

Each of my CB subs plans gets assigned to a joomla/cb group upon registration. When I use the child/parent plan combo this creates a scenario where a premium member becomes part of both the basic member group and the premium member group. So, when I try to create a menu, list and other permissions using groups, I can't seem to make it work properly.

For ex: I have a number of menu items that should be shown to basic members, but not to premium members and vice versa. The way that its set up under the child/parent scenario the premium member will always have access to the basic members menus because he is part of both groups.

This is where I get stuck...

Is there a way to un-assign a member from the "basic" cb/joomla group when they upgrade to premium status and still keep the child/parent relationships? (thinking that's not possible)

Or

Is there a workaround for having an exclusive premium plan member be placed into the free basic plan when they unsubscribe (which was my original issue)? Thinking the answer there might be no too...

Any other tricks I can use that you know of to facilitate this? Possibly just by simply offering the free basic plan as an option when they unsubscribe?

Thanks and Appreciated

Not yet, but it's planned.

Only if your plans are non-exclusive so they can subscribe to multiples.

Not sure what more to advise. Ideally if you have your free basic plan a parent exclusive plan and set it to allow upgrades they could just select it when they expire instead of renewing. Example as follows

Basic (free, lifetime, exclusive, allow update)
Teacher (free, lifetime, exclusive, allow upgrade)
- Premium 1 (non-exclusive, allow upgrade)
- Premium 2 (non-exclusive, allow upgrade)
- Premium 3 (non-exclusive, allow upgrade)
- Premium 4 (non-exclusive, allow upgrade)
Teacher Premium (exclusive, allow upgrade) <- includes premium 1-4
Student (free, lifetime, exclusive, allow upgrade)
- Premium 1 (non-exclusive, allow upgrade)
- Premium 2 (non-exclusive, allow upgrade)
- Premium 3 (non-exclusive, allow upgrade)
- Premium 4 (non-exclusive, allow upgrade)
Student Premium (exclusive, allow upgrade) <- includes premium 1-4

Say with the above I subscribe to Teacher and later don't want it. I can subscribe to Basic and be back to the free user.

Okay. Thanks for presenting this alternative. I don't think it will do the trick for my particular use case as I don't have a universal basic plan- just teacher free lifetime and student free lifetime. Thanks for providing additional options though.
Is it possible to configure CB Subs to present alternative plans when someone unsubscribes from an exclusive plan? Similar to how you can choose plans to suggest to someone already on an existing plan. So the flow would be, user goes to unsubscribe but before they complete the process they are offered selected plans based on the plan they are leaving... so a premium teacher plan would be offered the teacher basic free lifetime plan or the option to completely unsubscribe. It wouldn't accomplish the automated process but would get me close to the end goal.

Thanks again.

With CBSubs 1.2.2 and conditions placed on your plans as configured on the workflows tab you can show/hide a plan based off other plans state. For example you could show Plan B only if Plan A is expired.
