What is the advanced query filter needed, to show only the user's pending connections in a user list?
Also is it possible to call a list in the content module using substitutions?

The below appears to work fine in my tests to show connection requests I sent that are still pending.
Code:
( ( SELECT COUNT(*) FROM `#__comprofiler_members` WHERE `memberid` = u.`id` AND `referenceid` = '[user_id]' AND `pending` = 1 ) > 0 )

Also is it possible to call a list in the content module using substitutions?

No.

Thanks but for some reason it shows also the requests that have already been accepted.
One more thing: what is the query to show the incoming pending requests towards the user? (i.e. the ones made by others to him)

Whoops forgot pending on the query, edited my reply.

Below should do that.
Code:
( ( SELECT COUNT(*) FROM `#__comprofiler_members` WHERE `memberid` = '[user_id]' AND `referenceid` = u.`id` AND `pending` = 1 ) > 0 )
