Well, of course I disagree, partially...
Actually the fix is about changing a field type into database, which, even if has to be done on many plugins, is not a big problem.
I'm achieving a website / intranet / social application for a french university.
That means the needs were:
-having a website, with authors ACL based (migrating content of a J! 1.5)
-having an intranet with a repository for documents, with authors ACL based
-having a social app, with multiple profile types and groups.
Everything is running smoothly. I wanted to prove that Joomla! could be a serious robust platform, and it is.
I have 285 groups, and 5 access levels, that it.
It is for 2000 workers, and 15000 students/year.
CB is quite a good solution, as my needs only required 2 modifications, 1 into CB, 1 into GJ, which is few for such a "completely non standard" usage.
You just forgot my usecase with lots of groups...Not bad at all...
I used Joomla! and a selection of components because it's open source, and it's open to discussion and evolution.
So think about it, are webapps going to be little or medium platform, or won't they need to be larger, with larger functionnalities ?
If I can make that for a university, don't you think others may want the same things soon ? Might be other organisations as well, where you may have 2000 or more workers in it.
If the system is changing for CB 2.0 that's fine, that's why I choose open source solutions, with clever people than me that can help me thinking of bigger systems.
That's why I renounced to use CB sub the "super free, but in fact no you can't, or you will wait till we decide you can do this" solution.
So it will bring better functionnalities , I'm confident with that, I'm just into CB for 5 years, so I had time to think about all this.
But please, do not present things like if CB 2.0 could be regressive, or make me think I choose the wrong horse, not in terms of functionnaliy of course, but in terms of size of items or such details...
I mean, what's the purpose of all these plugins ? Accessing external databases, connecting with facebook, privacy etc...
Having all this accessible can only bring to bigger communities, transverse functionnalities.
Once again, my needs required 2 very simple fix, and all is running fine, I just used the available functionnalities.
I don't know if with CB 2.0 I'll have to rethink all my system, but I guess, even if it's a bigger upgrade for me, I will be abble to organise my needs with it, and better.
Tell me this, and it's fine, or scary me more, but if you could be more specific of the "earthquake" I should expect with CB 2.0, I will be gratefull.
Anyway, I won't migrate with a snap to CB 2.0, I know that.
Just please, stay open to discussions, and bigger websites that may require 2 different group/access system sometimes.
Thanks for reading. I would also love to know what other CB teams members think of this.
Not expecting 10 pages, just a few words to know where I'm going, or not.
Best
