Social media integration

Social media integration was created by oorzaak@oorzaak.nl
Hi,

On a J1.5.26 site we have CB1.8.1 running; about 200 members have registered so far. Some members have requested to have their social media integrated in their profiles on our site. For instance:
- show a link to their Facebook page;
- show recent updates from their Facebook page;
- show recent tweets

Now I've installed the CB Connect plugin but I'm really at a loss about how to use this plugin in order to accomplish this. The instructions with the plugin state that I should start by registering with, for instance, developer.facebook.com. I cannot understand why I would need to do this, because I want to integrate my members' FB pages, not my own page.

Or maybe CB Connect is not the right plugin for what I want to do?

Kind regards, Frits

Your users will need to click "Link" if the CB Login module (assumes you followed Help and configured everything properly). This will link their social site account to their CB account. You can then create Facebook Social Plugins, Twitter Widgets, etc.. as fields within CB > Field Management to display various information. There's no FB social plugin to display their Facebook Wall on their profile though.

CB Connect is first and foremost single sign on for social sites. So yes it maybe the wrong plugin for your needs if you don't want registration/login from social sites and instead may just need delimiter fields plus a field for user to supply facebook id, etc..

Hi Krileon,

Thanks for your reply. I thought I should give it a try anyway. But I do not get past the first step of the instructions for FB at the moment. This is due to FB, not CB but I thought I should mention it anyway. The first step says 'login to Facebook Developer'. In order to login, I had to confirm my account using my mobile phone. The problem is that I do receive a code but FB refuses it, saying that it is not a valid code. This happened twice, after that I could not request a new code anymore.

If you'd happen to know how I can contact FB to get this issue solved I'd be happy.

Kind regards, Frits
