I have a lot of fields (type delimeter) which users cannot change (user read-only). It would be nice if they are not shown to the users at the moment they edit they profile. They are really messing up the edit profile tabs and make my users confusing.
I only want to show them what they can edit/change.
I have tabs that have only one or more fields with customized php-code. In those cases it would be nice if I could hide the whole tab for the user when he is editing his profile.
Of course when not in edititng mode of the profile those fields and tabs have to be displayed to that user and al visitors of his profile page.
Yes, install CB Privacy then edit the tabs/fields you don't want visible in profile edit and set them to not have a profile edit display.

It helps me a lot. I see that it will not work on the backend user profile edit. I have also a backend Administrator/Moderator which only have to to see and edit a subset of fields from all users. Is there a way that she will also been restricted in what kind of fields/tabs she can see/edit?
It does not function in backend. If you're having field validation issues in backend then turn off backend field validation within CB > Configuration > User Profile then set "Fields validation in Admin" to "No" and they won't have to complete empty required fields, etc..
