I promise I checked the CBSubs manual before posting this. I could not find how to do this, if it is possible. I did read extensively on how to allow acces to only one or more of the plans, but I could not find out how to do this.

I have a menu item I would like shown only to guests - visitors who are not yet registered, or are members who are not yet signed in. I would like all plans to hide this one menu item.

How can I accomplish this?

CBSubs doesn't hide menu items. It can only hide the entire menu module. Hiding individual menu items is something we'd like to have in a future release though. The only way to hide it from all plans is to have another plan that protects it (by it I mean the module as you can't hide individual menu items, only protect their destination basically).

Would it be possible for me to create a duplicate menu (and module); and have the one shown only to guests/members who aren't logged in, and the other shown to all logged in members? I could then delete the one menu item from the menu that all members see...

Yes, if you're on J2.5 or greater you can set the public module to only be visible to a guest viewaccesslevel then protect the private one with CBSubs.
