I have two user groups: Athlete and Event Creator

Is there a way to vary the "URL after first login" based on their user group (cb_membertype)?

I have looked in AutoActions but don't see a "afterFirstLogin" redirect option.

Yes, only way to do this however is with CB Auto Actions. The below for example should do the trick.

Type: Redirect
Triggers: onAfterLogin
Access: Everybody
Conditional: [cb_membertype] Equal To Athlete
URL: index.php?option=com_comprofiler
