I'll have to look closer at a later time but if you can just tell me if is it my syntax or my logic, that will help me understand what I need to focus on in the tutorial.

"joom_usergroups" isn't an actual field or substitution. The below is likely what you're needing assuming "usergroups" is your CB field.
