This functions as intended, but it's counter intuitive. Users are being directed to edit their profile, expecting to be able to upload photos of themselves and the photo tab then disappears on them. Is there a way instead to redirect them to the view profile tab for photo gallery when in edit view so they end up in the photo gallery tab under the 'view' view every time OR perhaps a way to make a menu item that would link to the photo galley tab specifically in 'view' view so I could at least make a joomla menu item for "upload photos" that would take them to the right place?

I don't understand the issue. Click the respective tab in profile view and begin uploading. Your users should have no confusion in this regard. You can even put a note in profile edit using a delimiter field if you feel the need to do so to inform them of this. You can disable the profile edit view of the tab as well using CB Privacy. Redirecting from profile edit to profile view is not going to work as then they can't edit their profile. You can make a menu item that links to a specific profile view tab by appending &tab=TAB_ID_OR_TAB_NAME to the profile URL. Example as follows.

index.php?option=com_comprofiler&tab=ProfileBook

Thanks Kyle. I re-read my last post and it wasn't the best example of clear communication... sorry for that.

I'll try to clarify in hopes a better understanding will help you to offer a better solution/suggestion.

We have 2 Joomla menu items, 1 to 'View your profile' and 1 to 'Edit your profile'. When we ask our subscribers to go edit their profile to include photos of themselves in their photo gallery, it's not intuitive for them to go into the 'view your profile' section .. they'll intuitively go to 'edit your profile'. The problem is they cannot upload photos in the photo gallery tab under 'edit your profile', in fact (through our use of CB Privacy).. there is no tab for photo gallery in the edit view. This is because we do not want them editing values related to the photo gallery itself, rather just uploading photos of themselves or removing previously uploaded photos of themselves which is done in the view mode.

Our troubles are limited just to photo gallery in this regard. We want users to be able to edit their profiles... for other details of their profile, just not what's being offered for the photo gallery tab while in Edit view.

If there isn't anything to really help with this, we'll have to make the best of it. Your last tidbit though, should be helpful.

In the end, we're just trying to make the site more intuitive for our users to update their content. If being able to make a Joomla Menu item that will link to the correct Tab is the best way to help direct them to the right spot to do this, it should help make where they need to go more obvious to them.

I'm not sure what more to suggest as there is no way to render a tab like that in profile edit as that'd be an HTML form within an HTML form, which won't work and isn't valid HTML. Most content tabs like that are done from profile view. For example CB ProfileBook, CB Blogs, CB Invites, etc.. are all managed from their profile view tabs. Profile view tab links is probably your best approach (you'll need to use External menu links, if you want them with SEF then append the Itemid of your main profile URL).
