And what does the onAfterUserRegistration different from the onStartSaveUserRegistration ?

One is when registration status and another is when registration ends. You should be using the after registration trigger. Using the start trigger is going to cause a user object store too early.

Because when someone types his or her name and it is the same as someone else, the error occurs when the hit the button register.

That will never happen again if you fix all your existing users and put this action in place for future users to fix. This action will not fix existing users, you need to fix them manually.

On our site we have 3800 users. Is there a quick way to put everyones emailadres into the username field?

You can run a database query like the following directly on your database to update username to email.
Code:
UPDATE `PREFIX_users` SET `username` = `email` WHERE `username` != `email`;

Replace PREFIX with whatever your database table prefix is (e.g. jos). I highly suggest making a database backup before doing anything like this just encase.
