Only other thing I can think of then is an access issue. Are you using CB Conditional or CB Privacy to change access to the field or the tab the field is on? Perhaps access to it is being removed, which will cause it to not substitute.

No, I controlled and none of it!

I disabled 2 plugins Privacy and Conditional but nothing changes.
I tried with [cb:userfield field="connections" user="#displayedOrMe" /] or [cb:userfield field="connections" /]... still nothing!

Well, I close this topic but I still unresolved.

I don't know what more to advise. Using [connections] works for me on every page. The only reason for it not to is if access to it is lost which could be access to the tab it is on or the field it self. Try disabling non-core CB plugins 1 by 1 and see if that resolves it.
