Collation on CB 1.9 was created by nilsy
About 2 years back, I pointed out a Collation problem concerning non-latin letters (å, ø, æ etc) in Usernames.
This was corrected shortly after.

It seems this has cropped up again.
Not sure when, as it is not often people use such letters in their Usernames, but someone made me observant of this earlier today.

If not, and it is isolated to me, anyway of pointing me in the right direction?
(I have tried searching for similar issues here, but that's not panning out).

CB 1.9
Joomla 1.5.26
PHP 5.2.17
IIS/6.0

Ensure all your database tables and columns have the correct collations. Register a user directly through Joomla from backend using a username with characters that normally mess up with CB and see if it works. If it does repeat the test using CB > User Management. If it does mess up then it's a Joomla user store issue or database issue.

I started a user from the Joomla backend, using the letter "ø"
Went frontend, and it didn't work.
The same result with CB registration backend.

On the frontend, all users are directed to the CB, as the Joomla registration process is not allowed here.

Do you know which table I should try to change?

If the same issue happens with just Joomla, completely bypassing CB, then the issue is in Joomla or is in your database. You should check the _users table as that's where Username is stored (CB doesn't store the username anywhere).

Here is the jos_users table.
It seems to be correct as far as I can see...?

And yes, when I create a profile JUST from the Users in Joomla, the same issue persists.
Which (as you say) indicates the issues stems from Joomla, not CB.

Click the "Operations" tab when viewing the _users table and ensure the entire table has the correct collation as well. Now click to view your entire database and not any 1 particular table then click "Operations" and check the collation for the entire database table. Aside from that I don't know what more to advise as the issue appears to be coming from Joomla it self.

Joomla 1.5.26

This could perhaps be the cause. Maybe is fixed in J2.5/J3.0? Have you tried a J2.5 or J3.0 install to see if same issue is present there?
