Hi
CB Gallery Tab Management and on another tab tested so far (normal Blog), the text entry area of Tab Management specifically says "Description: This description appears only on user edit, not on profile (For profile text, use delimiter fields):".

However, for me it shows on 'profile' as well. I read in a post here from a couple of years ago this was maybe just for created tabs (so why does the above description (for the text box) still show for original CB tabs?), the implication was that "plugins and such can do what they wish with description".

I'm not sure if that means "I" can make it do whatever, or if it's according to the plugin's design? I have tried permutations with "CB Conditional: Tab conditional preferences", but no joy in turning this off for general profile view.

Any suggestions how to do this, or is it impossible? If it is possible, this would be handy for controlling two context aware descriptions for the same tab depending on user or general (public/registered) view instead of the complicated delimiter process. i.e. depending if the description is for the owner (edit view), or the viewer (user view), the wording/notes/instructions often need to be different. But at the moment, there's no way of using this idea via Two-Way direction because two description boxes aren't present. - Just a thought?

Plugin tabs can render it in profile edit or profile view as they please. Those specific plugins render it in profile view. The only way to change this is to edit the plugin and change it to render in profile edit instead. The reason it renders in profile view is so you can provide a description of how to use the tab if you wanted to as its used entirely from profile view.

CB Conditionals can not condition a tabs description in any way.

Thanks for the reply, which unfortunately makes things a little awkward for my site's plans once again. I had spent ages following the advice of the plugins, e.g. Description: This description appears only on user edit, not on profile (For profile text, use delimiter fields), to create delimiters to do the descriptions for the various views only to find that that I could have saved a lot of time using these description fields after all!

Now it seems it's impossible to have a contextually different version of the text for the edit view. Is there no way (other than editing the plugin) to turn one or another description off or have different texts on each view? Why aren't the plugins descriptions updated to say what they really can or can't do?

NB, those specific plugins are rendering the description text in both profile and edit view, you imply it should only be in profile view? And CB Gallery is not as you imply only used entirely from profile view? It has various things to change and view in edit view which is why I need a different description, one for the owner to understand, the other for viewers.

It maybe possible to hide it with CSS. Example as follows.

Code:
.cbProfile .tab_Description { display: none; }

The above will hide the profile view description for CB ProfileGallery.

Why aren't the plugins descriptions updated to say what they really can or can't do?

Because the plugins can't change plugin edit like that. Only CB Profile Book and CB Profile Gallery have this behavior I believe.

NB, those specific plugins are rendering the description text in both profile and edit view, you imply it should only be in profile view?

It'll usually always render in profile edit unless the plugin stops it from doing so. If you want it to display in profile edit only you can probably hide it on profile view with CSS. Please see my first quote above.
