[SOLVED] Joomlapolis profile - CB Forums - Search

As far as i can tell, Joomlapolis makes use of CB Forums plugin.

Would you mind to enable the Search field on the forum tabs?
It's really hard to retrieve and find older topics and information.

The Kunena forum search itself is a bit tedious and cumbersome, IMHO. So I tend to bookmark and follow the most important topics. And those are getting more and more... the search field would really help out and speed things up a lot!

We're using the built in "Forum integration" here at Joomlapolis and not CB Forums. So we've no search feature to enable, sorry. Honestly, you don't want to find topics older than 6 months. Information tends to go out of date quickly. Especially is the case for incubator projects as they're rapid development. Setting Kunena search "Find Posts from" to last 6 months then using keywords relevant to what you're needing is quickest way to find relevant topics.

Honestly, i do... and Kunena search sucks. No quick search in current forum... Advanced search is a real pain with clicking around and this subforum selectbox. And you always have to repeat the entries over and over again. I do avoid using it whenever possible. Its not searching, it is guessing and hoping.

The search results are a real pain, too. No matter how many options you set... if one thread does include your keyword, and the thread is long... it gives ALL posts with the same title multiple times! That is the most annoying thing of Kunena search results.

(I also raised those two main issues in Kunena forum. Since v1.x. A long time ago )

So, I wouldn´t ask if I don´t have a serious complaint about usability and finding important topics. Kunena has to add some features for sure... but in the meantime we have to deal with it. The only quick help and little improvement is to use the search in MY bookmarks, MY favorites, MY subscriptions.

Please, replace and enable CB Forums. Or are there an issues or complications in using it on Joomlapolis?

We'll be upgrading everything on our next site upgrade. Last site upgrade happened before CB Forums was available and completely stable.

The searching is very familiar (phpbb style) and have no issues with it except I wish it had a Quick Search box, which if it did I feel more users would use it.

That's normal. Every forum search I've used does this. It's because it's searching the contents of an individual post. If the contents match your criteria it'll display it as a result. You can optionally set it to search titles (dropdown below search input), but you may not get too many accurate results as most users don't put accurate titles.

We can not replace it at this time. We have a strict upgrade path we perform for Joomlapolis. On next site upgrade it will have CB Forums, but that likely won't happen until after CB 2.0.

Yep, exactly what I do. Mostly searching in titles...
At least for titles search, it would definitely make sense to check for identical results. It makes no sense to list the same topic title again and again. I guess, this is technically no big challenge.

Next CB release is replacing core Forum integration with CB Forums all together so it's possible Joomlapolis will get CB Forums sooner than expected.
