I have a live site we are reconfiguring with new plans which we wish to Structure as follows:

Parent 1 (mandatory Free) - basic fields
-> Child 1A (mandatory Paid)- more fields available including some mandatory ones not in Parent
-> Child 1B (mandatory Paid) - more fields available including mandatory fields not in the two above

Parent 2 (mandatory Free)
-> Child 2A (mandatory Paid)
-> Child 2B (mandatory Paid)

RULES:
  • A user can become a member of Parent 1 and later upgrade to any of the other Children under both parents (all of which are exclusive)
  • A user cannot become a member of Parent 2 Without also being a member of Child 2A or 2B (Unless their membership expires)
  • Members of Child 1A, 1B cannot be members of Parent 2, Child 2A or Child 2B at the same time but can upgrade to them.
  • Members of Child 2a, 2B CANNOT NOT be able to be members of Parent1 or its Child members at same time but can downgrade to them.

In the second option Child 2A is selected by default, and therefore Parent 2 cannot ever be selected on its own. When Child 2A or 2B plans expire, the member then just remains a member of Parent2. (NOTE- In reality we prefer themn to automatically become members of Parent 1 (Free) but this functionality is not in CBSubs yet. I know you plan to add this feature at a later release.

In the first Option we want members to Join any of the levels, either Parent 1(Free) or one of the Child 1A or Child 1B. Obviously members of Child 1A or 1B will then automatically become members of Parent 1, which is fine.

PROBLEM: If someone tries to register as a Free member of PARENT 1 only (Free), an error appears saying the mandatory fields (although these are hidden on registration in the workflow) need to also be completed. Also that it cannot be joined exclusively without also joining Child 1A or Child 2A.

I cannot see how to decouple these at present. I have updated each Field to not be visible to the Parent Pan 1, and I have excluded them in the workflow for Registration. Am I missing something here?

Joomla 2.5, CB Subs 3.0, CB 1.9

Replied by krileon on topic Parent - Child Plans and mandatory fields
You can't have the child plans set to mandatory, but not available. This results in a configuration conflict and it's unable to validate the selection. You should make them non-exclusive, make them available at registration, or add a 3rd child plan available at registration.
