after a user is logged in, I would like them to be redirected to their profile. However, this doesn't seem to work, I even tried using a third-party extension.
Edit your CB login modules and add a login redirect to index.php?option=com_comprofiler and it'll send them to their profile after login.

CBs login page uses the parameters of the first CB Login module it finds. So configuring in the login module also works for the login page.
