db lookup and autocomplete

I am building a site in which one of the profile entries is the school attended (additional entries for graduate and postgraduate schools). I want to have a database of all accredited colleges and universities. When the user begins to enter the first few letters of their school, a window would popup with all of the suggested schools, the user then selects the appropriate school to populate the field. Similar to Facebook. Can this be done with CB? Is there any Joomla add-on that can be suggested to accomplish this task?

CB has no such fieldtype. You'd need to develop such a plugin. It ideally would send an ajax call to the fields ajax response handler when the field value changes then using the value in the ajax response handler query for a list of matching items. Once the ajax completes and sends its response back you'd handle the display somehow.

OK. I'm not a code writer, so your suggestion is not viable in my case. I'm surprised that the autosuggest/select/complete feature is not readily available as a plugin from Joomlapolis or some 3rd party. You obviously know how to do it. I did find a reference to such a feature at jqueryui.com/autocomplete (demo, not release). It's a common feature on many, if not all, mainstream social networking websites. You may wish to consider such a feature in CB2. I look forward to its' release. Hopefully soon. Thanks.

We've no plans at this time to implement that for CB 2.0, but maybe for a later release or as a new plugin.
