After the 1.9 - 2.0 update the template dropdown is empty. Where do I get the templates? Would it not be a good idea to install at least a default template along with the initial install of CB?
Sounds like you had the Default template unpublished, which should never be the case. Publish it within CB > Plugin Management (CB 2.x won't allow you to unpublish it anymore so this can't happen) then select it as your profile template.

Ok, the "Default" was unpublished. Now I can see something, but my entire 1.9 Profile setup is destroyed ... lot of work to repair that mess, but at least I can continue using my site, thanks.
CB 1.x profile is not destroyed. Unpublish the Canvas tab in CB > Tab Management and you're back to CB 1.x profile. If you ran CB > Tools > Canvas Layout then it's not reversible and you'll be in the new canvas layout. I've no idea how to interpret "destroyed" without any screenshots.
