How do I setup the default template so it looks like the one in your blog post announcing CB 2.0? I looked into your articles section but those articles are from 2006 hence I dont think they apply anymore to CB 2.0.

If you installed CB 2.0 for the first time you get a layout similar to the article announcing CB 2.0.

If you are upgrading from CB 1.9.1 and you want to get the new layout you can run the new Canvas Layout tool from CB Tools area.

A relevant video that might help you is #30:

thanks, it was helpful to a certain degree. But it was actually more scary - if all that happens on every update again I do nothing else anymore than keeping my sites up to date with redesigning the CB profiles ... that is a nightmare. Why do you do these all or nothing changes? I had everything designed for bootstrap, now my bootstrap temlate got deleted ... I still cant believe that ...

CB 2.0 Default template is Bootstrap. None of our CB 1.x templates are compatible with CB 2.x in the slightest. So they were all deprecated and removed as they had no purpose anymore and were not functional at all. We've warned everyone about modifying core files and if you modified core files then you will guaranteed lose your changes on upgrade installs (we do not support core modifications).

We've made multiple news articles, newsletters, videos, and posted screenshots during the profile layout upgrade process. All of this is in addition to our alpha, beta, and rc releases for testing and feedback. The new profile should not be a surprise to anyone at this point and if it is you need to be sure you're reading the information we readily provide for you.

In addition to the above stop upgrading a live site. Especially a live site with no backups. Clone your site, backup your site and the clone, then upgrade your clone. Test thoroughly on the clone to ensure it meets your expectations. Once you've made head and tail of the upgrade on your clone you can upgrade your live site. That is basic website management that all of you should practice and not doing so is a danger to your site and your users.

==> who is talking about core modifications? I never do that. I was talking about my regular profile template.

Of course I do backups, but that has nothing to do with the deleted profile template. As you say yourself the old templates are of no use anymore anyway. I can do 100 backups and 100 tests and 100 reads ... it still would not help. At some point I have to update and loose all my current template setup.

Modification of CB or our plugins are classified as core modifications. We do not support them. If you modify a plugin we provide, then upgrade said plugin, your modifications are lost. This applies to all of our plugins and CB it self. Any number of our plugins could be deprecated and merged into CBs core so just keep this in mind when choosing to make modifications to them. In this situation CB Bootstrap was upgraded to Bootstrap 3 and merged into CBs core as the new Default.

Your styling changes could still be relevant if the selectors you used are Bootstrap 3 compatible or you used CB selectors, but it'd probably be difficult to determine where your changes have been made without doing a diff against an unmodified Bootstrap template. However, when reapplying the changes be careful to place them where they can't be lost. This could be Joomla template CSS files (preferable an override file) or a CB template that uses override.css (we're working on a tutorial to explain how to use this).
