Does the directory [website root]/compontents/com_comprofiler/plugin/templates/default/images/canvas exist in your installation? Are there files in there?

Yes it does and all the dafault files are in there. In the meantime I have circumvented the problem by renaming my desired defualt image to "nophoto_n.png" which works for the default.
I have the same problem for the default profile image field sa well.
Are you using CBs default template or trying to use some other CB template?
