Please install CB 2.x nightly and see if it resolves the input stretching as believe have fixed this for 2.0.5. There were some height calculation problems in the jQuery that have been resolved.

The default image field images go in the following folder.

components/com_comprofiler/plugin/templates/default/images/avatar

The exception being the canvas field, which are in the following folder.

components/com_comprofiler/plugin/templates/default/images/canvas

For security reasons the name of your image needs to be pretty clean. Don't use special characters, spaces, etc.. Example as follows for name structure.

Bad: My New Image.png
Good: my_new_image.png

If you're not using the default template then your images would go in the above same path except in your template folder instead of default folder.

Aside from the above I'm unsure what to advise as it's working fine in my tests. Enable debug mode and maximum error reporting in Joomla global configuration. Once done edit your image field and see if any errors are output as maybe the directory parsing is failing.

Our directory parsing function uses is_dir, opendir, readdir, closedir, and asort PHP functions. If any of those are disabled by your host it could possibly be the result of the directory parsing failing.
