[#5001] Donation Tax Receipt

Hi,

After someone makes a donation and the payment is completed we need to send them a tax receipt.

We have both membership subscriptions and donations. It doesn't look like you can customize the invoices so the membership invoice is different than a donation invoice? I believe the same invoice is sent for both. We would like the donation invoice to be the tax receipt as then the user could login to the system and print out the invoice whenever they want, if they loose the initial invoice email.

Can you think of any way to have this functionality?

All past invoices can be seen on the profile -> subscriptions tab of each user.
There is a link at the end of the tab.
Relevant CBSubs GPL configuration parameter for this is located in CBSubs -> Settings -> Display -> Invoices:

Show invoices
Show in user profile subscription tab invoices of last

parameters.

But we need the Donation Invoice to be different than the Membership Invoice. I don't think that CB Subs has that functionality? Can you make the content of the invoice different for the 2 different types of invoices?

I know that users can go and look at past invoices, which is why using an invoice for the tax receipt would be the best thing to use. But if we can't have a different invoice for Donations and Memberships, then we need to use something else. Which was my question, any suggestion as to what else could be used that would give the user the ability to go back and look at the 'donation receipts' in their profile.

You can't have 2 different invoice displays. They all format in the same way. I'm unsure why the invoice is insufficient, which they can access from the Subscriptions tab on their profile. It displays the amount completely itemized, the payee, the date, the invoice number, and more; this is more than sufficient for tax/accounting purposes and has no less information than a receipt would have. It maybe something we can add in a distant future release, but for now I can't see a reason for it.

A Charitable Donation Tax receipt needs to have specific information in it, which a regular invoice doesn't and shouldn't have. We don't want a Membership subscription invoice to have the extra charitable donation information in it as someone might think that they could use the membership invoice as a charitable donation receipt for income tax purposes.

In Canada there are strict rules about issuing of Charitable Donation receipts, what they have to include and under what circumstances they can be issued. A membership would not fall into the rules, so its invoice could not have the things that the donation receipt would need.

Does that make sense?

So, any other ways of getting a 'tax receipt' to someone that has donated which they could view and print when they desire?

Ah, I see; yes that makes sense. So ideally for your situation it would make sense for the invoice display parameters to be plan by plan instead of global. Have added a feature ticket for internal discussing how to better approach this.

No, not without developing something to specifically output the invoices how you want. The information is in the database, but we've nothing to output it how you're wanting. You could probably use a combination of CB Query Field to query for the information and CB Content Bot to substitute the information into a Joomla article for easy printing.
