Many registration issues

Hi,
I'm running CB 1.9 on Joomla! 2.5.27, and I have some difficulties configuring the registration.

First of all I'm building a First name and Second name based community, so I would like to allow users to have the same First/Second name combination if they have a different email. Is that possible?

Also I would like to realize a step by step registration. I've seen how to make a tabbed registration, but I would like to make it divided in different pages (i.e. Insert contact Info -> Check your mail for confirmation -> You are registered! Now invite your friends -> Upload a Profile picture), is that possible in a simple way?

Joomla 3.5.27 needs at least CB 1.9.1 to work properly.

But CB 2.0.4 is recommended.

Sure, the name field in joomla is not needed to be unique.

CB 2.0 has a tabbed registration mode or steps mode built-in.

I'll take a look to the tutorials you've linked here, they seems very useful but I didn't found that before searching on the internet.

Concerning the username issue, I was asking that because when I try to register an user with the same First/Second Name combination of another, but with a different email account, it tells me that the "Username" is already used. So there must be something wrong in my configuration but I've already checked in the plugins, fields and CB general configuration for that.

If username field is not available during registration then CB will set their username to Name. If username and name both aren't available it'll be set to Email. In CB 2.x you can specify what field this falls back to.

I've disabled "username", "firstname" and "lastname" fields from registration and it takes "email" field as Username. The problem is that now I have user's email shown in his profile as Username.

It would be perfect if there would be a way to take Firstname and Lastname as Nickname, an ID generated by CB as Username (shown only backend, i.e. "mario.rossi.1234") and email only to check if that user is already registered.

You can do that using CB Auto Actions and a field action acting on the after registration trigger. Once everyones usernames are adjusted accordingly you should have no further conflicts, but you'll need to manually fix existing users or mass-fix them using a database query. The alternative is to use CB 2.x and specify a different field for the fallback.
