Unauthorized registration was created by wolfsauge
Hi,
Since a while some Polish spammers come around regularly and post on easyblog. I have already been busy with the easyblog forum, but they deny a security problem with their software and recommend to ask here. Please see the attached screenshot, it shows a new user being enabled without confirmation nor approval. I only come to know that there is a new user when he posts a spamblog, I am not getting informed of the registration itself. I do not have the slightest idea what exactly happens there, usually I delete the post and the user and block his IP. But it would be better the spammer would not get in in the first place. Has someone experienced that, too, and found a solution?
Best wishes
Dirk

Looks like you have your Joomla registration process open and spammers are getting in through there.

See our getting started articles here:

www.joomlapolis.com/documentation/community-builder/getting-started

They are written for CB 2.0 but should help you even with CB 191 (you should upgrade to CB 2.0 as soon as you are able to).

Hi Nant,
Thanks for your help. I checked and modified the Joomla configuration.
Regarding the upgrade I like to know whether I can upgrade CB on a Joomla 2.5 installation. I have to admit I am kind of reluctant with upgraduing Joomla itself, since the last major upgrade (migration from 1.5) created such a mess and so many problems that I am still traumatised :(

Yes you can upgrade from CB 191 to CB 2.0.7 on your Joomla 2.5 environment.

Make sure first that any CB plugins you have installed have CB 2.0 compatible releases as you will need to upgrade them right after your CB 2.0 update.

Of course as always start you a backup just in case you need to revert back.

Joomla 2.5 -> 3.4.1 should be a much easier process as it is not a major migration as J1.5 -> J2.5 was.

Of course here also you should start off with a backup.

There are lots of resources available on the web about Joomla upgrades for you to study.
